Transatlantic Cooperation in Iraq, Syria, ISIS

The current conflicts in the Middle East have created a downward spiral of violence, humanitarian emergencies, radicalization, and border crossing instability that poses tremendous challenges to both Europe and the United States.

At the same time, it has become clear that strong transatlantic ties are ever more important in order to promote stability and peace in that region. What does transatlantic cooperation in that regard currently look like and what options do Europe and the United States have to prevent the Middle East from further sliding into chaos? And how may elections on both sides of the Atlantic affect future cooperative action? These are the guiding question that will be addressed in this lecture.
